Getting started
01 / 03
Admissions & previous learning +
Admission and course placement involve a review of the student's educational background and supporting documents. The calendar explains course prerequisites, prerequisite waiver procedures, transfer credits, equivalency and Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR), including provisions for mature students.
Course Calendar · Section II — Admissions & Registration
Online learning & technology +
Students access lessons, assessments, grades and teacher feedback through the school's digital learning environment. Learning includes independent activities, teacher communication and a scheduled weekly teacher-led video conference for each enrolled course, unless excused under school policy.
Students need an appropriate desktop or laptop, a supported browser, a webcam and microphone, and reliable internet. The calendar specifies minimum speeds of 10 Mbps download and 3 Mbps upload; higher speeds may be needed for shared connections or live conferences.
Course Calendar · Sections 3.9 & 3.9.1
Attendance & participation +
Attendance is based on meaningful learning engagement, not simply signing in to Moodle. Students are expected to complete at least four meaningful learning engagements per enrolled course each week and attend the scheduled weekly teacher-led online video conference unless excused.
Teachers monitor participation and progress, follow up with students and families when concerns arise, and apply the school's intervention and appeals procedures.
Course Calendar · Sections 4.2–4.5
Student success & educational planning +
ONA provides guidance with course selection, individual educational planning, graduation monitoring and postsecondary pathways in Canada and other countries. The calendar also describes academic support, early intervention, support for English language learners, and special education accommodations and community resources.
Course Calendar · Section V — Student Success, Guidance & Support Services
Learning & conduct
02 / 03
Assessment, evaluation & reporting +
Assessment and evaluation use evidence of learning collected through observations, conversations and student work. Students receive feedback and reports on their progress.
The calendar explains final-grade calculations, final evaluations, written examinations, assessment security, reporting and the process for requesting a grade review. Course-specific details appear in course outlines.
Course Calendar · Section VI — Assessment, Evaluation & Reporting
Academic honesty & responsible AI use +
Students must submit authentic work, acknowledge sources and avoid plagiarism, cheating, impersonation and unauthorized assistance.
Generative AI must not be used to complete or substantially alter schoolwork without school authorization. If permission is granted, students must observe the stated limitations, disclose AI use and be able to explain their work.
Course Calendar · Section 4.6
Late & missed assignments +
Students are expected to meet deadlines and inform teachers promptly when difficulties arise. The policy covers late and missed work, exceptional circumstances, support, documentation and relevant review procedures.
Course Calendar · Section 4.7
Student conduct & responsible technology use +
Students are expected to communicate respectfully, protect account information, respect others' privacy and use school platforms responsibly.
The calendar addresses online behaviour, video-conference conduct, acceptable technology use and progressive responses to misconduct.
Course Calendar · Sections 4.8–4.10
Achievement & records
03 / 03
OSSD graduation requirements +
Graduation requirements depend on a student's educational history, original Grade 9 entry year and applicable Ontario Ministry policies. They include required credits, literacy, community involvement and applicable online learning and financial literacy requirements.
For eligible ONA students, qualifying online courses can count toward the online learning graduation requirement; community involvement still applies independently. The school reviews each student's individual graduation status, including exemptions, opt-outs and previous education where applicable.
Course Calendar · Section VII — Graduation Requirements
Course changes & withdrawals +
Students considering a course change or withdrawal should contact the school first. The calendar explains the withdrawal process and the different Ontario Student Transcript implications for Grade 9–10 and Grade 11–12 courses.
Course Calendar · Section 3.8
Student records & confidentiality +
The calendar describes the Ontario Student Record (OSR), Ontario Student Transcript (OST), access rights, confidentiality, record transfers, retention and requests to review or correct information.
Requests concerning student records should be directed to the Principal or designate. Students should not send confidential student records through public website inquiries.
Course Calendar · Section VIII — Student Records & Academic Documents
Questions, concerns & appeals +
Students and families are encouraged to raise concerns with the relevant teacher or staff member. Unresolved matters may be referred to the Principal through the school's complaints process. Specific procedures apply to attendance appeals and assessment or grade reviews.
