The mission of Ontario Nexus Academy is to make high-quality Ontario secondary education accessible to students in Canada and around the world through flexible, structured, and personalized online learning. We are committed to providing students with meaningful opportunities to earn Ontario secondary school credits and work toward the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), regardless of their location or previous educational pathway.

At ONA, we believe that student success is strengthened by high-quality instruction, ongoing assessment and feedback, educational and career/life planning, regular monitoring of student progress, and timely support when students experience difficulty.

Our online learning model provides students with access to structured lessons, learning activities, assignments, assessments, teacher feedback, and scheduled teacher-led online conferences. Students are expected to participate actively and demonstrate consistent progress throughout their courses. Teachers provide instruction, assessment, feedback, and academic support while monitoring student achievement and engagement.

Academic and guidance support is an important part of the ONA experience. Students receive individualized educational planning to help them understand OSSD requirements, select appropriate courses, monitor their progress toward graduation, and make informed decisions about postsecondary pathways. ONA also supports eligible students with applications to Ontario colleges and universities, including the OUAC and OCAS application processes.

ONA welcomes students transferring from other schools and educational systems. Previous education is reviewed in accordance with applicable Ontario Ministry of Education requirements to determine the student’s standing within the Ontario secondary school system and the diploma requirements that remain to be completed. Where applicable, Prior Learning Assessment and Recognition (PLAR) is implemented in accordance with Ministry policy.

Our approach to learning emphasizes critical thinking, communication, collaboration, digital literacy, academic integrity, and the application of knowledge in meaningful contexts. Assessment, evaluation, and reporting practices are designed to support learning while providing fair and accurate information about student achievement.

Our mission extends beyond earning credits and meeting graduation requirements. We aim to prepare students to become confident, responsible, and independent learners who are equipped to pursue postsecondary education, careers, and lifelong learning in an increasingly interconnected world.
